Boiler servies

Depending on your boiler, the general life expectancy is around 15 years. However, boilers are often neglected and without the proper care there is a higher chance of it malfunctioning.
Here’s some tips to help maintain your boiler at its maximum competence, saving you money in the long term.

Annual Boiler Servicing

An annual boiler service should be scheduled every 12 months and involves a thorough inspection and examination of your boiler and heating system. This is a critical procedure when sustaining your boiler. Any components that have been corroded or will cause problems in the future will be detected and amended. It is cheaper to replace parts than to repair a broken-down boiler.

Clean your boiler

You should clean your boiler as part of your general cleaning routine. Dusting the pipes and outside of the boiler will a cloth will prohibit dust accumulation. Eliminating mess and clutter from the area surrounding your boiler to ensure its properly ventilated. However, you should not touch the inside as its really complicated and will be cleaned professionally during your service.

Bleeding your radiators

Even though this isn’t related to boilers, if your radiators aren’t working proficiently, your boiler is forced to work harder to heat them up. All you do is open the valve on the radiator, releasing the trapped air that prevented your radiators from heating up properly.

Powerflushing

Your boiler won’t be as productive if it’s always working harder. Although powerflushing concentrates again on radiators, this service will greatly boost your boilers efficiency. As chemicals are involved it’s crucial that you use a qualified plumber to do this as it’s dangerous.

Regularly Switching The Heating On

Switching your heating on in the summer is the last thing you want to do, but putting it on once a week for 15 minutes will reduce breakdowns as it will keep all elements within the system moving. Lowering the thermostat of your heating, particularly in the summer months, will save you money too.

Boiler Pressure

A boilers performance can be altered by its pressure; the efficiency of the boiler will decrease when the pressure is low. Checking the pressure gauge will indicate whether your boilers pressure needs topping up and to do this you can either ask a plumber or use the instructions of your boilers manual.

Don’t use these tips to substitute replacing your boiler. An old boiler will be more prone to breakdowns and will have to work harder to fulfil its purposes, thus costing you more money in the long run.
